United of Way of Lewis County, for the 13th consecutive year, is partnering with the Lewis County Sheriff's office in coordinating "Shop With A Cop" program. This is an opportunity for children from disadvantaged circumstances to go Chrismas shopping for their immediate family.

Last year, 30 children were paired up with local Deputies and had the wonderful experience of shopping with the money raised by the Lewis County Sheriff's office.

Eligibility Criteria:

• Child must be between second grade and high school
• Family residence is in Lewis County
• One child per family
• Child has not participated in the past; however, previous applications not selected may be given priority (Counselors may call the United Way of Lewis County office to verify child’s previous participation.)
• Child must to be able to separate from family while shopping

Application Considerations:

• Children from families who may have negative feelings or mistrust of law enforcement
• Children from families with financial need

Schedule Timeline:

• Deadline to submit application is November 28th by 4 p.m. 
• Families will be notified if selected by December 5th

A committee will make selections from the applications based on the number of deputies signed up to participate.  To ensure confidentiality where needed, we will contact the person that filled out the application and make arrangements to notify the family of the child. You may send in an application for more than one child, keeping in mind that only one child per family will be selected.
 

“Shop With A Cop” takes place on Thursday, December 18th at Wal*Mart, starting at 5:00 p.m. and concluding with a pizza  party, games, and gift wrapping at the Law & Justice Center in Chehalis at 7:15 p.m.
