FREE books to kids birth to five years old! United Way of Lewis County and the Lewis County Rotary Foundation are proud to sponsor Dolly Parton's Imagination Library in Lewis County. Through funding provided by Dolly Parton and local community partners, The Imagination Library is dedicated to inspiring reading by gifting free books to children.
How does it work?
All children whose parent or guardian enroll them in the program will begin to receive books mailed directly to them monthly up until the child turns five years old. Each month, a new, carefully selected book will be mailed in the child’s name to their home. The child will receive their first book approximately 6-9 weeks after they are enrolled.

Why is reading important at this age?
A child's brain is 90% developed by the age of five.
Having access to books and reading aloud has numerous benefits to a child; it builds literacy skills, language, and brain development. The number of words that a child knows upon entering Kindergarten is a key predictor of his or her future success.
Dolly Parton's Imagination Library promotes early childhood education and fosters parent/child interaction - both of which are fundamental ingredients for future educational success. Research has shown that children who participate in the program gain the skills that prepare them for school.
