United Way of Lewis County is delighted to deliver the exciting news that the goal set back in September, 2013 of $600,000 has been reached and surpassed. This is once again a testament to the generosity and caring nature of Lewis County that United Way of Lewis County was able to meet and exceed our campaign goal. It was very challenging again this year and we are proud of what we have been able to achieve.
Lewis County has one of the highest unemployment rates in the State and United Way of Lewis County and our partner agencies are being called upon to provide even more help. Many of our family, friends and neighbors do not earn enough money to meet their basic needs. This accomplishment allows us the opportunity to positively impact even more people in our community. It was a valiant team effort among campaign team volunteers, United Way staff and employee campaign representatives, but most of all, it was the generosity of businesses, organizations and individuals that made it successful. It is very impressive to see how people in our county come together for their friends and neighbors.
A significant part of reaching this year’s success was an increase in new donors. In addition, United Way has diversified its fundraising efforts by not only fundraising in workplaces, but by holding special events such as Chefs’ Night Out, Power of the Purse, and a premier golf tournament in September. United Way’s successful fundraising efforts prove that although the local economy hasn’t yet fully recovered from the depths of the past recession, Lewis County residents are kind-hearted and willing to contribute to worthwhile causes.
United Way of Lewis County is fortunate to have a group of committed volunteers across the county who rallied to make this campaign a success, as well as an incredibly hard-working staff. The money raised will support 17 agencies in Lewis County. One out of every three residents utilize the services provided by United Way funded programs each year.
